Traditionally, the canon of Sherlock Holmesconsists of the 56 short storiesand four novelswritten by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.[1] In this context, the term "canon" is an attempt to distinguish between Doyle's original works and subsequent worksby other authors using the same characters.   The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes was first published in Silver Blaze The Adventure of the Cardboard Box – Note that this story is the second of the twelve Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes in most British editions of the canon, and the second of the eight stories from His Last Bow in most American versions.
